The KNX PY pyranometer measures global radiation, which is perceived as heat. The measured radiation (watts per square meter) allows conclusions to be drawn about the energy input to the area during a defined time period (kilowatt-hours per square meter). Both values can be read using KNX PY. There are four switching outputs with adjustable thresholds, as well as additional AND and OR logic gates.
The sensor system, evaluation electronics and bus connection electronics are mounted in a compact housing.
The intensity of the sun is applied e.g. use shading as thermal protection. Another area of use is solar thermal systems (preparation of hot utility water). The exposure threshold then defines when it is worthwhile to activate the water pump.
